July’s Upcoming KS Board Games (Part 1)

We’re about to witness one of the most intense months in the “tabletop” category on Kickstarter. Mythic has already launched their Super Fantasy Brawl. There’s also Middara with over 2 million dollars pledged. And let’s not forget about Jurassic World, Roll Player and Dwellings of Eldervale. All of the above are just the beginning, as the amount of July projects with high potential and big names attached to them, is insane.

Let’s have a look at the first batch of games.

Smartphone Inc. – July 2nd

Smartphone Inc. is an economic board game set in the 2000s – the time when smartphone business was still budding, and there were plenty of amazing opportunities on the market. It was released last year and soon it will reappear on Kickstarter along its new expansion.

The game takes place over the course of 5 rounds. Your goal is to become the most successful player on the market. To achieve it you’ll have to work on developing new technologies, creating new company buildings and expanding your range of products. Gameplay is based around an action planning mechanic, which is delivered in a way pretty unique to the genre.

What to expect from the new edition? First of all: higher production quality of the components. A new “hardcore mode” for those who want an even bigger challenge. There are also some tweaks to the rules to make the game smoother and more replayable

Ignacy Trzewiczek is a designer known for his Robinson Crusoe, Imperial Settlers and the recently released Detective, which got nominated for this year’s Kennerspiel des Jahres. Next week he’s about to make a debut on Kickstarter with Prêt-à-Porter. The game got released in 2011, received a number of awards and is currently pretty hard to find. Luckily: the campaign will not only bring the game back, but also improve it by many degrees: from various rule changes to completely new visuals by Kwanchai Moriya (Dinosaur Island).

Prêt-à-Porter is a 2-4 player worker placement, economic game about the complicated world of fashion. You make a career by getting new designs, making influential friends, opening new outlets, hiring models, finding best fabrics and producing your colorful goods. 3 workers per player let you choose which actions to perform, and even though it may sound simple, the game is actually known for being deep and heavy.

DinoGenics: Controlled Chaos – July 9th

DinoGenics. Trademarks and visuals belong to their rightful owners.

Decades have passed since the premiere of the first Jurassic Park movie, and people are as fascinated by huge prehistoric creatures as 26 years ago. A campaign for the Jurassic World movie official board game is about to end and most people, who stay up to date with tabletop gaming news, know about Dinosaur Island. DinoGenics, like both titles mentioned above, deals with the giants of the past, but offers a bunch of fresh and creative ideas.

DinoGenics turns 2 to 5 players into managers of dinosaur zoos. Everyone collects DNA, builds infrastructure and brings dinosaurs into selected spots surrounded by fences. Players can do things in legal or less legal way and there is also a chance of their beloved “pets” escaping and having a dinner of their lives.

A new expansion, that’s about to appear on Kickstarter, changes and adds plenty of things. New, bigger buildings are now available. So is the aquatic DNA, aquatic habitats and an option to capture wild dinosaurs by hired specialists. A set of new prehistoric beasts with their own stats will also be added to the game.
