Dwellings of Eldervale – a Worker Placement Game Like no Other

Dwellings of Eldervale is a game that merges the mechanics of worker placement, tableau building, variable player powers and area control together. Everything comes with a highly modular board and a set of custom meeples. There are also optional larger miniatures available.

Welcome to the Fantasy World

The land of Eldervale consists of 8 areas, each dominated by a different element. In this magic filled world, players (1-5) take control of unique factions to experience adventures, fight, develop their abilities and strengths – everything to earn as many points as possible by the end of the game

Each faction has unique units (workers, a warrior, a mage and a dragon), represented by their own custom meeples. Every group comes “locked” in a special Game Trayz tray, which makes accessing them instant and leads to set-up becoming less time consuming. Same with all other components!  When it comes to comfortable set-ups, I can’t think think of many games that could compete with Dwellings of Eldervale in that regard.

The game also includes 24 hex tiles. You use them while playing to create an unique world map. 64 adventure cards allow building your own engine. 46 spell cards will help with special actions. Don’t forget about the 8 monster cards too, as each has a powerful skill and, when it comes to the deluxe edition – an unique mini.

The box hosts around 100 treasure tokens, 120 resource tokens and 54 dice. You will also find a special ruleset inside, allowing you to play a solo mode called “Ghosts of Eldervale”. It’s supposed to be incredibly challenging, and based around the core mechanics from the base game.

Living in Eldervale

Two most important mechanics in Dwellings of Eldervale are worker placement and tableau building. During the course of the game players place and remove their units on the map or adventure cards, and then perform the corresponding actions. Special units have different skills for each faction, which makes the game a different experience every time you choose a side to play.

Players get points during the game, and also while the final scoring takes place. To win you’ll have to use your units and their abilities effectively, cast proper spells, kill monsters, fight other players and gather powers of certain elements.

The Kickstarter Campaign

The Kickstarter campaign will last until July 25th. After a week the guys at Breaking Games have already managed to collect almost $250.000. They will likely get to much higher numbers as stretch goals feel really tempting. 3 entirely new factions have already been unlocked as well as a 2v2 mode.

The core version is priced at $69. Deluxe edition including monster mins (sized at 50mm), 20 metal coins and 100 wooden, custom resources can be yours for $99.

The $139 pledge also looks neat, as it not only gives us a deluxe version of Dwellings of Eldervale, but also 8 bases for monsters that… make monster sounds. These are activated when moving each mini, so every attack will be accompanied with a fitting roar 🙂

Shipping is planned for May 2020.
