Wood is an universal and ever popular material. It shouldn’t come as a surprise.Wood looks fantastic, is durable and when properly conservated, it pleases the eye for a long time. Today we’re going to show you three gadgets from Kickstarter that were made using wood.
Totm+Travl
Modern technology and wooden decorations combine into something truly unique. You can admire them in an elegant and useful dock station called Totm+Travl made with Apple Watches in mind. The name is not random. Accessory consists of two pieces: the station and a smart power bank – both with covers made of oak wood.
The design feels minimalistic or even frigid. Don’t get fooled though. Lack of LED lights, buttons, switches and sliders doesn’t mean that the capabilities are low. Quite the opposite. Let’s begin by full compatibility with calendar, thanks to which the set sends notifications about smartwatch battery levels, travels and important meetings. That’s not all.
The “if->then” modules are probably the most revolutionary. Corresponding applications allow making your life easier. Example? Putting Apple Watch in the socket can pull down your window blinds when you’re going to bed. Pulling it out will turn on the coffee maker and start your favourite playlist. A nice scenario for a morning. Internet of Things at its best.
Design solutions are also interesting here. Totm+Travl was built so that using it feels comfortable. Inner space lets you store your cables. Bluetooth connection allows for data transfer. USB-C port will let you quickly recharge energy in your portable battery.

Base4 Clock
Here’s a clock made with geeks in mind. It works based on quaternary numeral system and the information is displayed using three colors. Red means hours, green – minutes and blue – hours and minutes. How does that work in practice? If you know numeral values of each field it actually is really simple. Just see for yourself.
The device is available in three versions. Basic one comes equipped with birch plywood cover. More demanding backers, who don’t mind investing a bit, can get variants furnished with walnut and maple wood (both come as additional layers covering the birch plywood).

The Great Sharpy
Thirty seven layers of incredibly sharp damascene steel and a cambered handle made out of walnut wood. Thanks to them this unique jack-knife will meet many challenges. Small size (20cm with 11cm long handle) makes it a perfect companion on hiking and camping trips. The shape of the blade makes preparing meals easier and will let you cut things like long ropes super quickly.
This campaign is obviously planned as a smaller project. The goal was set just at 400 GBP. Bonus gadgets include a pair of handmade gloves. That’s where the biggest risk comes from. If there will be too many pledges made the shipping date may get delayed.
