Company of Heroes is a well known real time strategy game for PCs. It’s set during the World War II and was created by Relic Entertainment. Now, thanks to Bad Crow Games, CoH will also arrive on our tables as a board game. Is it worth checking out?
War Never Changes
Board game version of Company of Heroes is supposed to feel like its video game predecessor, with some changes due to the characteristics of the board game medium.
Players will have to choose 1 side of the conflict and survey areas using its units, gather precious resources, discover new buildings, vehicles and upgrade these already owned. All of the above to gain the military power needed to turn your enemies into dust along with their bases!
The map, where your operations take place, is three dimensional, which makes many of its elements fit for hiding. Apart from that: it’s hard to imagine a wargame nowadays, especially one adapted from a video game, without miniatures. 2 player version will include 18 vehicles and 78 infantry units. Regular box, used to play with up to 4 players, contains twice as many plastic components.
Gameplay
The game can be played in 2 styles, and you can choose whichever fits you more. That means being able to play either in real time or in turns. No matter what you pick, you’ll have to take control of the most strategically important locations, and gain resources necessary for expanding your army with new units. Buying new stuff will be as vital as using it effectively during fights.
Many players will be happy knowing that dice won’t be the most important element during combat. They’re used to mark unit upgrades, but the combat itself will focus on unit types and their positions. Strategy comes first, and the only way to win is to use everything in your arsenal smartly. Especially considering that all factions have their own perks, and the leaders, whom you can additionally train, will add even more uniqueness to each group.

Kickstarter Campaign
The 2 player version of Company of Heroes is priced at $65 and includes only 2 factions: USA and Germany. Stretch goals are not included here.
Regular edition box costs $99 and includes the entire game for up to 4 players (USA, Germany, Great Britain and Russia) as well as all the stretch goals unlocked during the campaign.
The $125 pledge adds a Terrain Pack including 8 building minis and few dozens of flags.
Add-on section looks quite tempting too. Many players will be interested in the solo + co-op expansion priced at $26. For $46 you can get 16 additional tanks and 16 elite leaders. For $42 you can also expand the game with a second German faction.
The campaign will last until June 26th. Shipping is supposed to commence in May 2020.
