Another Friday brings another batch of Kickstarter previews. Today we’re focusing on board game campaigns launching in Fall and possibly later on.
Dining with Dracula – August 18th
Count Dracula is without doubt a true legend, featured in plenty of board games. The old fellow has spent ages sucking blood from innocent people and would finally like to get some well deserved rest. You, as one of his dear great-great-great-grand-children, will have to help him and hopefully become his heir. Does that mean attacking innocent people? Possibly, but your main task will be… working on developing local tourism which has become quite vibrant thanks to your dear, bloodthirsty uncle.
Dining With Dracula is an euro-style board game designed for 2 to 4 players. You have a certain number of actions available on the in-game clock and have to spend them on gaining resources that will please the old vampire. As you progress, you’ll need additional workforce so turning tourists into vampires is unavoidable. Each of 4 days ends with a Dinner Phase where you gain Victory Points for your achievements. Entering this phase has a cost paid in sheep, tourists, blood packs, gift cards or by being bitten yourself. Whoever has the most VPs by the end of 4th day becomes the winner.

Defection – August 25th
Now, here’s something for all SF fans out there. A new space exploration themed board game is coming to Kickstarter on August 25th and the materials released so far make it look quite tempting. The premise is unique here. You’re tasked with saving civilians during a huge, interstellar war. If you succeed with saving their lives, you’ll also have to help them with creating new places to live on various, hopefully safer, planets.
Defection is played in a group of 2 to 4 players and like you probably expect from the description above: pick-up and delivery is the most vital mechanic here. To get better at your mission you’ll have to upgrade your ship and hire new crewmen. The space is made of randomized tiles that make your travels unpredictable and add lots of replayability.
Crimson Woods – October 6th
And we’re back in the horror genre although with a slightly more serious take this time. Crimson Woods takes us to a certain camp surrounded by a vast forest. If you’ve ever seen Halloween or other similar stories you obviously know that camps like these tend to attract serial killers. The one in Crimson Woods is no exception.
Each of 2 to 6 players takes on the role of camp counselor and cooperates with others to survive. All characters are unique and have their own skills and stats. The board is modular and consists of 36 tiles. While running through the camp you’ll find various helpful items from weapons to flashlights and energy drinks.
Master of Wills – Waterborne – 2020
Master of Wills franchise is about to come back to Kickstarter. The collectible card game for 2 or 4 players uses unique mechanics related to card movement representing struggles between certain powerful Factions in a dangerous, but beautifully illustrated world. Every player picks one of said Factions and constructs a deck of their cards, allowing for plenty of freedom.
The newest Kickstarter campaign will introduce a brand new playable group called Waterborne. They’re mysterious people who come for a faraway land and have mastered primal powers you’ve never seen before. Apart from the Waterborne expansion the campaign will likely have all the previous content released in the franchise so far.
