3 Upcoming Kickstarter Board Games – Fall 2020 Keeps on Giving

The final quarter of the year, like always, is filled with tons of board game campaigns on Kickstarter and on other crowdfunding platforms. Looks like most creators want to promote their games before the holiday season kicks in and backers start emptying their wallets on presents. What do we have for you today? 3 great upcoming games that will be crowdfunded this year. Like always: enjoy!

The Warp – October 29th

Vast space, complex strategy, high competitiveness. If any of these three make you excited for a board game, Thomas Snauwaert might have something for you. The game he designed, called The Warp, makes you travel to a faraway planet called Yortar where a tumultuous revolts and gravitational distortions changed the world politically and geographically. You take control of a local colony, but you’re not the only faction doing so. A new conflict is already brewing.

The Warp is an upcoming 4X game designed for 1 to 6 players (4 without the expansion). The game is quite fast paced compared to most titles in this genre, but at full player count can take up to 3 hours. Each player picks a different race and the amount of choice seems pretty insane here. There are 16 races, each with unique and asymmetric characteristics and a different approach to strategy.

During your turn you will collect income (gold, energy, troops), and take various actions like developing (building, upgrading), terrashifting and obviously: attacking your rivals. Interestingly, there’s also an option to bribe defenders and supporters to discard certain cards that affect you.

The Warp has 66 available missions that reward succeeding in various aspects of the game. The first player to amass 9 mission points triggers the end of the game and leads to the final 3 rounds. After that, whoever has the most mission points ends up as the sole winner. The game also allows for team based gameplay in 2v2 or 2v2v2 formats.

RoShamBo – October 29th

Board game designers like to reinvent classic and popular ideas. The creators of RoShamBo really went out of their way to create something insane and yet based on a game most of us have played at least once in their life: Rock, Paper, Scissors

RoShamBo. Trademarks and visuals belong to their rightful owners.

RoShamBo is designed for 2 players and features a Chess-like board with a set of hand shaped figures representing… rocks, papers and scissors. Despite what it may sound like at first, the gameplay is anything but simplistic.

Every round an artifact gets placed on a random square of the map. Collecting artifacts awards special cards that can be used when playing and provide additional tools for defeating your opponent. There are cards that teleport units, alter attacks or grant passive abilities like certain immunities or making your attack power higher.

The game is supposed to launch on Kickstarter on October 29th.

Dark Venture: Battle of the Ancients – 2020

Dark Venture: Battle of the Ancients. Trademarks and visuals belong to their rightful owners.

Dark Venture was one of our favourite games of 2019. The perfect mix of mechanics and a fantastic art style that reminded us of indie comic books from a decade or three ago was a match made in heaven. Now Rob Lemon is back with a brand new project set in the same world, but working as a completely stand-alone game and a follow-up to the original.

Dark Venture: Battle of the Ancients takes us again to the grim world of Darkgrange. Every player becomes a leader of a creature faction, each with a set of their own unique powers and characteristics. Fans of the previous game will likely recognize many of these races. Some can grow their units faster, others have teleportation skills or can even steal the DNA of their enemies.

The game itself can be played solo, cooperatively and in a competitive mode. A set of six action dice makes for the central part of the mechanics. After rolling, players spend them on actions like movement and activating faction abilities.
