Dark Venture Card Game Coming to Kickstarter in October

Dark Venture is a card game by Gilded Skull Games, a studio that has so far focused on creating games for smart devices. This is going to be their first attempt at making a board game and the preview materials actually look impressive enough to make me consider backing it on launch.

An Unwelcoming Place

Dark Venture takes place in the dystopian setting of Darkgrange – a dangerous and heavily abandoned world, where every corner crawls with deadly mutants brought to life with magic. Each player controls a hero, and tries to complete dangerous tasks, while staying alive. Along the journey you’ll find additional equipment to make you stronger and give better chances at survival.

What We Know About the Gameplay

Dark Venture is aimed at 2-4 players, with an additional solo mode. At the beginning you randomly select a quest (from 25 main and 35 side ones), that everyone will be trying to complete. Whoever collects most quest points becomes the winner. Players who dislike competitiveness will be happy to know that there is also a co-op variant included.

Cards in Dark Venture belong to “item”, “weapon” and “character” categories. To play them you’ll have to spend action points. The game uses a dynamic map system, so the board will look different every time you play. There also seems to be pretty big focus on narration and story, which we welcome with open arms.

The Visuals

What makes the game most unique are the awesome visuals, stylized after retro fantasy & SF comics and book covers. That includes terrain tiles, cards and even the instruction manuals. All graphics were created by Rob Lemon, who’s also responsible for designing the rules.

The campaign is planned to launch in October 2018. We’ll try to provide more info when it launches.
