3 Upcoming Board Game Crowdfunding Campaigns – Forests, Tournaments and Hunts

Let’s continue with more previews of summer and fall tabletop games. Today we want to focus on two crowdfunding services: Kickstarter and Gamefound. Let’s go!

Forests of Pangaia – June 15th

Forests of Pangaia is a debut game by Thomas Franken and Pangaia Games. It feels like a creative take on the area control genre. Instead of troops and armies, you will be capturing terrain by… planting trees. The game takes place in a lush forest, where trees of various kinds grow and wage a centuries old war for conquering it. Each player takes on the role of a mythical spirit of the forest and controls one tree colour. The goal of the game is to plant your seeds and make them grow so that they cover the biggest area possible

Your trees can grow seeds and spread them when they are full size. This way the conquest can continue and your plants are able to land in even more territories. Player boards help with getting even more seeds and unlocking further height levels for your trees. Ritual cards, another vital game mechanic, are devoted to various steps of the forest’s circle of life. They provide goals and other challenges for you to complete.

Forests of Pangaia looks like a simple, but addictive game that players of all ages can enjoy. Beautiful artworks also make it feel serene and simply stunning. The Kickstarter campaign is set to launch on June 15th.

Ambal Tournament: Foundation – September 14th

Ambal Tournament is another debut game we want to talk about today. The game was designed by Bernardo Bittencourt and is being self published. It belongs to the card game genre, and is highly competitive. Players wage duels in a fantasy themed world, and only one can end up victorious.

One of the most interesting mechanics here are simultaneous rounds, which speed up the game by a lot. Cards are divided into various Schools of Knowledge. Over the course of the game players build their decks from up to 2 of these. Each School plays a bit different and can focus on melee or elemental attacks. The basic set consists of 100 cards but the designer promises more to come in the future.

Wild Assent: Lavon Rising – 2021

Now that’s a name we haven’t heard in a while. Wild Assent was one of our favourite Kickstarter funded board games of 2018. Amazing miniatures and the “2 in 1” game idea that merges PvE with PvP made the game stand out from other contemporary projects. It was designed for a group of up to 4 players with a solo variant available as well.

This year Wild Assent is going to make a big comeback. Instead of Kickstarter the game will be funded through Gamefound. What can we expect from the campaign? First: Wild Assent will get reprinted with a number of new language translations. A new, ambitious story campaign will also be released along the reprint.

Like in the original release there are 2 different play modes. The first one is called “The Hunt” and makes players cooperate to kill all sorts of dangerous monsters. Completing this mode requires numerous sessions during which you will upgrade your characters and gain more riches to buy new equipment. Expanding your encampment also plays a vital role here.

“The Arena” is the second mode and like you’d expect it focuses on player versus player combat for 2 or 4 players. Everyone can also control a number of monsters that can help in securing the victory.
The newest expansion called “Lavon Rising” gives us a new, story heavy campaign. This time every decision will alter your experience and lead to a different ending.
