It’s difficult to make it big in a super crowded market, especially when starting completely fresh. This is also true for Kickstarter, where every product category gets hundreds of new entries each month – just look at jackets, card games or camping tents. It’s almost impossible to achieve anything there nowadays unless you’re a huge brand or spend millions on marketing. Werenbach’s case seems like a good source of inspiration for people, who still want to sell their creative ideas on Kickstarter. And a testimony to the fact, that nothing sells a product better than a great story.

From a Local Park to the Stars

The beginnings of Warrenbach brand are humble and consist of many happy coincidences. According to the founder, he got his idea while jogging in a local park. His concept sounded crazy, but incredibly tempting: Patrick dreamed about creating high quality watches made from spaceship parts. This way, apart from being top notch swiss devices, his products would also have a really original story behind them.

After putting first prototypes together Patrick visited one of the biggest watchmaker expos on the planet – Baselworld. He and was shocked by how insignificant he felt among all huge players. At first his creations sparked little interest and made him question his choices. Despite that, Patrick sticked to this idea and decided to make his watches available on something alternative to good old retail. Kickstarter sounded like a perfect solution. The result was mind blowing as the campaign got to insane sounding million US dollars.

Crafted from Spacecrafts

Werenbach watches are crafted from space rocket parts found in restricted military zones in Kazakhstan. These usually include elements dropped during first and second phases of the launch: the booster and the fairing. Werenbach people examine fallen parts, check which mission they belonged to and note it down, so that the future owner can know the story behind his timepiece.

Watch casings are created from special alloy made of 96% of original rocket steel and a tiny bit of nickel and molybdenum. The faces are cut straight from the ship’s surface and are not melted or modified, so they keep their original texture. They often look scratched and bear the marks of being used, just like the rocket they were made from. This process makes each watch unique and one of a kind.

Flying Higher

After their debut campaign, Werenbach switched to more traditional sales methods. New collection of watches got introduced as well. This week however we’re about to witness their second journey to the world of crowdfunding with the latest Mach 33 model.

Werenbach’s latest creation is going to push their “Spaceborn” idea even further. New models will not only be made from rockets, but also have deeper connection with space industry. You will be able to pair your watch with your phone and use it to connect to a camera located on the International Space Station. It’s often said that viewing Earth from outer space changes your views for life. The creators of Mach 33 want you to experience exactly that. You will be able to tune in and gaze at our planet anytime you feel like it.

Mach 33 will be made from Soyuz space rockets, used to transport people to space and back. Despite unique materials, the price is supposed to be the most affordable of anything Werenbach ever put on the market. Early Bird rewards will start at 179 US dollars.

Countdown to Launch

The campaign is launching on June 12th. If you want to make it on time for Early Birds, you can sign up for notifications here. Creators also encourage everyone to watch today’s launch of Soyuz MS-09, similar to ones which their timepieces are made from.
