The Obsidian Tower – May 7th

The debut project from Jared Hungerford is hitting Kickstarter in 5 days. The Obsidian Tower is an adventure game with heavy emphasis on player cooperation. Everyone selects a class – Knight, Paladin, Wizard, Druid or Bard and goes on an adventure to solve the mystery of the titular tower and rid the world of all the threat it’s posing. Classes differ a lot and have access to unique skills.

The traversable area is made of hexagonal tiles, and they seem to  replace a typical board, giving the game additional modularity and replayability. Authors have a plan of offering a more premium edition of the game, that would include plastic bases for tiles, making turning them over easier and quicker. Same with additional environment elements and minis. You can see some of them on the game’s official website linked below.

The entire project has an extremely passionate feeling about it. Two expansions are already designed and will be available during the campaign.

Raccoon Tycoon: the Fat Cat Expansion – May 14th

Raccoon Tycoon: the Fat Cat Expansion. Trademarks and visuals belong to their rightful owners.

Raccoon Tycoon is an euro style economic game that had a huge success on Kickstarter last year. And not only there – the game made it to retail stores and got tons of favorable reviews from all over the board gaming community.

You play as animal tycoons trying to make a buck while managing enterprises from farms to railways and factories. The market keeps changing and you need to adjust to make the most money out of it. Taking part in auctions is also vital to winning and makes for an important part of the gameplay.

The newest addition to Raccoon Tycoon called “The Fat Cat Expansion” is about to launch on Kickstarter on May 14th. According to the creators we’ll get a bunch of new cards representing railroads, buildings and towns, mechanics allowing to take a 6th action, and a set of player boards. Everything decorated with fairytale-like illustrations by Jacoby O’Connor and Annie Stegg.

It’s a Wonderful World – May 14th

It’s a Wonderful World. Trademarks and visuals belong to their rightful owners.

It’s a Wonderful World is set in pretty creative vision of a retro futuristic Earth. The illustrations by Anthony Wolff, grab your attention right away. Players become leaders helping their own nations/societies develop and prosper in this dystopian realm.

It’s a Wonderful World is first and foremost a card game, although there are some additional elements like resource tokens and a small board to host them. It’s aimed at 2 to 5 players, with a solo variant available as well.

Drafting is the central gameplay mechanic here: each player takes 7 cards from the top of the deck, chooses 1 and passes the rest to the person sitting next to them. Each card gained has its own resource cost and a list of things it produces, as well as a note about resources gained if you decide to discard it.

As the game progresses, everyone will create bigger and more effective engines allowing for the construction of even more buildings and projects. After drafting cards and going through the planning phase, the production begins and everything is generated in an order dictated by the mini board. Players can use it to their advantage and create special chain reactions by planning their constructions smartly.
