Superheroes, Romans and Zombies – Upcoming Board Game Kickstarters Q4 2019

October is finally here. Evenings are getting longer and the weather is increasingly chilly. How to cope with that? Obviously: by playing more board games!

Meanwhile, Kickstarter is waking up from its summer slumber. There’s lot of competition and new projects keep appearing. Today, we’ll show you 3 games coming next month and later. Enjoy!

Hour of Need – November 5th

Adam Sadler and Brady Sadler are back! The creators of Descent 2nd edition, Warhammer Quest: The Adventure Card Game, Brook City and many others are about to bring their newest title to Kickstarter.

This time the theme is… comic book superheroes. Heroes chosen by players will combat villains not only with their physical power but also by countering their evil schemes

Hour of Need is a card game at heart and can be played solo or cooperatively in a group of 1-4 players. The core of the mechanics is based around Modular Deck System you may know from Brook City and Street Masters. The idea is to have different heroes, each with his or her own deck of actions and items. Same with villains, who are also represented by their unique decks. Huge amount of choices will surely boost the replayability through the roof here. A 5-6 player expansion was announced as well.

Foundations of Rome – November 12th

UPDATE | According to the info we got directly from the authors after posting this the project was pushed to January 2020.

Another designer with amazing portfolio today! Emerson Matsuuchi is known for the Century trilogy, Specter Ops, Reef and many other games and expansions. His latest creation called Foundations of Rome will take us to the famed capital of the antique world.

The game belongs to the city builder genre and will have players expand the titular city of caesars and forums. Despite looking heavy, the gameplay is on the quicker side, according to people who’ve had the chance to play the early version. The visual side of Foundations of Rome is simply stunning. Quality of miniature matches the best manufacturers on the market and there will be over 100 of them in the box.

Zombicide – Second Edition – October or November

Zombicide Second Edition. Trademarks and visuals belong to their rightful owners.

Zombicide is here again. After all the fantasy and SF editions, we’re back to the very roots of CMON’s flagship franchise. The newest campaign will be a remake of the original game, most likely the first “season”. Original Zombicide was released 7 years ago and it would really benefit from rules overhaul.

Every subsequent season and edition of Zombicide has brought new mechanics to the table. Competitive mode, hordes, zombivors, concentrating fire and many others. Second edition will add many of these to enrich the original game and make it more digestible, deeper and less frustrating. The set up time is also going to be much shorter – up to 3 minutes total.

Apart from a plenty of classic survivors players know and love, there will be at least 6 new children survivor characters to play as. The game will include 25 scenarios, that are merged into one, branching storyline.  It will also be possible to use survivors from older Zombicide releases. These will be made compatible thanks to conversion kits.
