Our 3 Favourite Movie Trailers From Comic-Con

This year’s San Diego Comic-con has come to a close, bringing us a massive amount of things to get excited about. Tons of trailers and teasers were revealed to the public. We got introduced to a new Wonder Woman movie, had a sneak peek at Aquaman, saw a poster for the new Predator, learned about Clone Wars continuing and saw more of Fantastic Beasts sequel’s footage.

Today, after a heated voting session, we’ve picked our 3 favourite trailers from the convention.

Glass

Latest offering by M. Night Shyamalan comes after 3 years of waiting, and completes his superhero trilogy. The series started 18 years ago with Unbreakable. Movies follow a mysterious train accident called Eastrail 774 Disaster, and all events that it led to.

Glass tackles the theme of superheroes just like two previous films. We’re going to see many familiar faces like David Dunn (Bruce Willis), Mr.Glass (Samuel L. Jackson) and Kevin W. Crumb (James McAvoy). Trailer opens with a psychiatrist (Sarah Paul) telling us about her work with deranged people, who believe that they’re superheroes. All of her patients turn out to be the characters from two previous movies.

Shyamalan’s idea is to create something in opposition to hero flicks of today. He calls Glass: “the first fully grounded superhero movie”

Shazam

Shazam was the number one superhero during early 40s, back when he was known as Captain Marvel. As years went by, the franchise became slightly forgotten. Mostly because it went through some longer breaks due to legal disputes.

This decade the hero got resurrected by DC Comics (once again), and was made a part of their universe. Fans have been waiting for a movie adaptation for many years. There was one movie about Shazam in 1941 and soon we’re going to see a modern take on the red suit wearing superhero.

Shazam tells a story about a boy called Billy Batson, who gets taken in by a foster family. During a trip by metro he arrives at a mysterious station, and is welcomed by a long bearded wizard who grants him the powers of Shazam. Billy gains the ability to turn from a child into an adult superhero, clad in an old school costume with a cape. He becomes unbelievably strong and resistant to bullets.

The movie is slated for April 2019 and looks like DC’s attempt to introduce a more lighthearted superhero story to their movie universe.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters

For many people who, like me, grew up with kaiju monster movies, the trailer was a dream come true. Fans can easily spot the giant Mothra waking up, Rodan sitting atop a volcano and Godzilla’s nemesis: Ghidorah showing up for a brief moment. Everything feels grand and exciting, especially when the titular beast makes his entrance.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters is a sequel to the american take on Godzilla from 2014. This time the movie is led by Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga and Millie Bobby Brown (whom you may know as “Eleven” from Stranger Things). Michael Dougherty replaces Gareth Edwards as a director.

The story comes back to japanese originals’ ecological themes. Humanity is slowly causing itself to become extinct. Ancient monsters wake up and start tearing everything apart, while fighting each other. The key to make the Earth peaceful again lies in finding every single “titan”.

Premiere is slated for March 31st 2019.
