Board Games on Kickstarter – 4 Most Popular Titles Right Now

Last few years we’ve been observing a growing interest in Kickstarter funded board games. According to Polygon 2017 wasn’t different in that regard. Previous year had been topped by almost 400 projects and the total amount pledged grew by 36%. Average amount collected by successful campaigns sums up to 65 418 USD so over it’s 6000 higher.

2018 has barely begun and we’ve already seen the success of Nemesis by Awaken Realms. Looking at current year’s release schedule we can easily assume that a great time for board game lovers (and the creators) is upon us. Upcoming projects include titles such as Batman: Gotham City Chronicles, Rising Sun and Scythe: The Rise of Fenris.

And what are the most popular board games on Kickstarter right now?

Pandorum

Pandorum is a remote and barren planet with no signs of life ever observed. Why did the four biggest intergalactic corporations place their colossal platforms on its surface? It’s all because of insane amounts of mineral resources. Time to start the grand conquest.

This simple economic strategy game is aimed at 1 to 4 players. The match takes place on a modular board made of hexes. Players move their ships through these and build bases and modules on its surface. Exploring a threatening planet and protection against rivals is made easier thanks to technology cards drawn continuously from the deck. Whoever amasses the biggest amount of galactic currency (so called “quids”) becomes a winner.

Aeon’s End: Legacy

A game based on deck building mechanic, where players cooperate defending an underground city called Gravehold against powerful beings known as the Nameless and the hordes of their minions. Contrary to 2016’s Aeon’s End  the creators decided to focus on the continuity of the story.

Characters led by (1 to 4) players will take part in seven campaigns. Each of these will let them get better equipment, develop skills, gain new abilities and discover new mysteries. Interestingly, the authors of Aeon’s End: Legacy have prepared different variants of plot advancements that depend on  whether the players succeed in tasks given to them.

Dice Throne: Season Two!

Dynamic, exciting and dangerously addictive. That’s the best way to describe this game which debuted in 2017. The Second Edition introduces seven new characters.

The rules are simple. Players take the roles of unique characters and begin their fight for the throne. Each pretender possesses unique offensive and defensive skills. There’s a catch though. The ability to use these depends on rolling five dices. Luckily the players have three attempts available as well as a dedicated deck of cards which make attacking and countering easier. Gameplay consists of phases in which the players regenerate health points, gain action points, defend and attack.

The Reckoners

This cooperation focused game is set in the world of Brandon Sanderson’s works (specifically: in the series called “The Reckoners”). The world is governed by cruel people who, thanks to a mysterious flash of light, gained  powers and incredible talents. They are opposed by forementioned Reckoners – a group of trained and determined “normal people”.
