Just like last month, we’ve prepared a list of our favourite projects: both running and upcoming around the end of January.
Suburbia: Collector’s Edition
One of the most beloved city building games got revamped and is being funded through Kickstarter right now. Backers get: all the content released so far, a new expansion (Nightlife) and gameplay components from tiles upgraded with new illustrations to the real world city starting boards.
TOKYO SERIES
Pretty unique case of Kickstarter tabletop category projects. Smaller games dressed in modern Japanese themes, sold in batches. Latest campaign includes Tokyo Coin Laundry (12 mixed genre minigames), Tokyo Tsukiji Market (game about fishing and making money out of it) and Tokyo Game Show (inspired by craziest shows and games known from Japanese TV). The games feel simple but just ooze style.

Champions of Nexum
A game inspired by MOBA video game genre. Tested for over 3 years and equipped with an amazing set of minis, Champions of Nexum is setting the expectations bar pretty high. You can play the game with up to 6 players divided into 2 teams. Gameplay is based around competing to destroy each other’s castle. Each party has to complete quests while marching on. These often require certain types of crystals found through exploration. Planning your journeys effectively with your team will be essential here.
Tsuro: Phoenix Rising
Another remake of Tsuro, a tile placement game based on Squiggle from 1979. You play as legendary phoenixes, attempting to turn lanterns into stars. New edition adds more replayability thanks to 2 sided tiles and a more useful, molded board. The campaign also offers exclusive content in the form of phoenix pawns and a custom tray.
Western Legends: Ante up!
Open world sandbox game with a western theme got its first big expansion and there are still some hours left to back it. Ante Up! adds lots of new areas, makes the gambling part of the game deeper and adds train robberies to the list of possible player activities.
UPCOMING GAMES
The City
Some genres just love to come back in groups. The campaign for Suburbia has just launched, and here we have another classic city builder coming back – and for the first time in English. The City is based on cards, which make up for buildings and the money you have – at the same time. Certain buildings have symbols and can combo with other similar ones when played. The game may feel lightweight but has lots of strategic depth. The original served as a foundation for the beloved Race for the Galaxy.
