4 Upcoming Kickstarter Board Games – Zombies and Aliens

Bored? Thirsty for some news? Today we have 3 new previews for you, all related to tabletop game Kickstarter projects launching between April and October. Enjoy!

Resident Evil 3: The Board Game – April 28th

Resident Evil 3: The Board Game. Trademarks and visuals belong to their rightful owners.

If you ask around what franchise do most gamers associate with horrors and zombie apocalypses the answer will often be the same: “Resident Evil”. Especially if you ask people who play video games. This monolithic franchise currently sports 8 numbered entries and at least twice as much spin-offs. Recently the third installment got a HD remake and was received warmly by the public. And now, we’re about to get a board game, set in the very same Raccoon City we know from RE3.

Resident Evil 3: The Board Game lets players choose well known characters like Jill Valentine and play in a group of up to 4 people (or in solo mode). Similarly to other co-op games of this type, you’ll be able to play single scenarios or try the story mode that should take your group at least a few weeks to complete. You’ll wander through the streets and buildings in Raccoon City, fight zombies, complete objectives and manage your limited resources like ammo or healing items.

Nemesis: Lockdown – May / June 2020

Nemesis: Lockdown. Trademarks and visuals belong to their rightful owners.

A new game by Awaken Realms? Well, not entirely new as it builds upon their biggest hit so far (at least when it comes to player reviews). This time, instead of the Alien-style spaceship we will be wandering through a humanity’s base located on Mars.

Nemesis: Lockdown is first and foremost a new stand-alone game, but it also works as an expansion to the original. You can use the old aliens and characters while playing it. The base, where the action takes place is huge and consists of various floors, which you and your team will have to visit.

There are plenty of new ideas like base-wide events called “red alerts” which can not only be incredibly hazardous but also tend to remain secret until it’s too late. There’s also a new mechanic related to light, as it’s often scarce and requires some objects (like flashlights) to show you your way forward.

The original Nemesis won’t be available on the campaign but its expansions will, so you can get yours even if you missed the previous project.

Shards of the Jaguar – Q2 or Q3 2020

Shards of the Jaguar. Trademarks and visuals belong to their rightful owners.

Shards of the Jaguar is a competitive skirmish game set to launch in the second or third quarter of the year. The action takes place among a powerful tribe, who recently lost its spiritual leader. His mysterious murder led to huge unrest and the need to choose a new leader worthy of his or her role. Players make their way to a certain temple and look for crystal shards of the Jaguar to gain its power. Whoever collects the most of these will be recognized as the tribe’s new leader, and the competition… is violent.

Dealing with traps is a vital part of the gameplay. Open fights could be difficult so it’s all about outsmarting others and not falling into their traps as well. There are four types of these in the game: from spikes to more unconventional ones like the so-called earthquake trap. The type is selected each round and afterwards players can make 4 moves through the board. Deducting which way is everybody going to move and avoiding their traps is key. Other mechanics to spice-up the gameplay include a modular board and highly varied player powers.

Endless Winter: Paleoamericans – October 2020

Endless Winter: Paleoamericans. Trademarks and visuals belong to their rightful owners.

A new game by Stan Kordonskiy, whom some of you may recognize from Dice Hospital, is heading to Kickstarter in October. The illustrations and components are being designed by Mihajlo “Mico” Dimitrievski (West Kingdom series, Valeria), so we can expect plenty of unique and not so serious looking characters.

Endless Winter: Paleoamericans is an exploration heavy euro-game about first humans, during the prehistoric times in North America. To make your tribe the strongest you’ll have to work on gaining new knowledge and experiences: from hunting to creating megaliths (which will likely puzzle your descendants 10 thousands years later). There are various paths to victory – similar to civilization-style games, and a heavy dash of deck-building. During the game players explore new parts of the modular map, and plan their actions in an euro-game manner. So far Endless Winter seems quite replayable and charming, but we’ll have to wait for some new details to say more.
