Today we share a quick look at board games coming to Kickstarter between March and February. Let’s start with a surprising return…
Stormsunder: Heirs of Ruin – February 25th
Stormsunder is easily among the top games on our hype list right now. Created by Lazy Squire Games that gave us Wild Assent two years ago, it promises a lot in terms of gameplay content and story narration.
A mysterious calamity known as the Storm has engulfed the world of Stormsunder. Apart from destruction, the disaster made many powerful monstrosities, demons and vampires appear and wreak havoc on the unsuspecting humanity. There’s only a small team of people capable of fixing this grim situation. A ragtag group of heroes and villains that you belong to.
Stormsunder: Heirs of Ruin is played cooperatively (up to 4 players) or solo. Each character you control is different. They all have unique powers, weaknesses and personalities. Picking story choices that align with their beliefs will make them happier, more motivated and less likely to leave the party.
Stormsunder relies heavily on cards. They’re used to represent the skills that characters have access to, weapons with their unique mechanics etc. There’s a total 1000 of these in the box, and with over 100 hours of gameplay and countless choices, that alter the entire plot, we’re certainly in for a huge and well designed adventure game.
Lawyer Up – Sometime in March
Games about courtroom trials can be lots of fun. The topic is filled with tons of emotions, argument based battles, great victories and sore loses. If you’ve ever played the Ace Attorney video game series, you know well what we’re talking about.
Lawyer Up is a card game that lets the players create their own courtroom drama and battle like there’s no tomorrow. Both players take on the roles of attorneys who try to win a trial and these can include problems that belong to many different types of cases – from criminal to civil ones.
To win you will have to examine evidence and pick whatever looks usable in your arguments, collect testimonies, ask questions, debate and try to influence the decisions of jury.

Museum: Pictura – March 3rd
Museum: Pictura, despite what the name might suggest, is not an expansion to the original Museum but a completely stand alone game. Unlike the previous version, the game takes place in the past – in 1920s. You still play as a museum curator tasked with picking worthwhile pieces of art and displaying them on the walls of a museum. All paintings are represented by their own cards and total to 180.
After acquiring works of art, you’ll try to create collections: either by a period they belong to or by their genres. Making perfect collections will lead to increasing the prestige of your gallery. The amount of prestige you get is modified by the trends in the art world. Adapting to these will help you in topping your competitors and becoming the best curator in the country.
Museum: Pictura can be played by 2 to 4 players, just like the original game. The publisher promises many new mechanics and improvements over the previous version. The campaign is scheduled for March 3rd 2020.
Ruination – March 12th
Ruination designed by Travis R. Chance and published by Kolossal Games is a civilization game set in a post apocalyptic world. The setting was heavily inspired by Mad Max and the story of… Genghis Khan’s hordes. The world has fallen into ruin and most of valuable resources are controlled by the powerful Khanate. People who don’t belong to it are preparing for an all-out war.
Ruination is first and foremost an area control game. Each turn a player does 1 of 3 things: scavenges an area for resources, recruits new units or moves. All available actions lead to drawing their corresponding cards and these offer various bonuses. As a player you have to choose the order of receiving these bonuses and possibly activate additional ones thanks to that.
Advantage cards grant new scoring options and tweak the rules to make you more powerful. The game also has its own combat system based around unit related dice. As for the map of territories you’ll be fighting for: apart from regular areas it also contains unfriendly wastelands where you have to use additional resources to move forward.
As for our impressions: what we’ve seen so far looks incredibly promising. We dig both the setting as well as all the mechanics. Ruination is shaping up to be a fresh and creative take on the area control genre.
