3 Upcoming Kickstarter Board Games – Maps, Dungeons and Sneaky Ambushes

Let’s continue with more previews of tabletop games coming to Kickstarter this October. The month looks more and more packed with great projects. Let us tell you about 3 of them today.

Ambush: Epic – October 8th

We’ll start with a game that made a great impression on us during its April campaign. The project was put on hold for a while to make the game and shipment’s pricing better. The creators also wanted to introduce a number of additional improvements like illustrated cardboard tokens. Now, Ambush: Epic is finally ready for another round of crowdfunding and will launch on Kickstarter on October 8th along with an expansion called “The Oracle’s Chamber”.

The game focuses on a party wandering deep into a mysterious dungeon to hunt for treasure and fight powerful enemies. Apart from tentacled and fanged monsters, all characters also have to be extremely cautious of other adventurers which can backstab them to get more sweet loot.

Ambush: Epic is playable by 1-4 players and focuses both on cooperative and competitive card-based gameplay. You collect gear, upgrade it, manipulate encounters through Magic Cards, fight monsters and compete in PvP combat. Interestingly: it’s possible to not only challenge other players to fight you, but also force them to fight each other. As accumulating wins and loses is vital when it comes to final victory or early game over, using shady tactics like these may often lead to your triumph.

Darkest Dungeon The Board Game – (likely) October 2020

The launch of this long awaited project designed by Mythic Games is getting closer and closer. We’re guessing that the campaign is coming in less than a month, considering how many new visuals we’ve recently seen on Facebook.

Darkest Dungeon: The Board Game is an adaptation of the popular video game by Red Hook Games. It’s designed for 1-4 players and will make you travel through a creepy manor and its nearby areas with a team of highly customizable heroes. Each game in campaign mode will require completing 11 missions to succeed and (hopefully) brave the final Darkest Dungeon.

New content shown recently includes the miniatures of Cultist Acolyte and Brigands which are not only great looking but also match the atmosphere of the original game perfectly. Stay tuned for the full preview coming when the release gets closer!

Cartographers Heroes – October 6th

The Roll Player franchise was already pretty popular among Kickstarter backers and board gamers in general. Its spin-off called “Cartographers” has not only managed to achieve worldwide success but also got nominated for last year’s Spiele Des Jahres. The original game is playable by 1 to 100 players and makes you map the northern lands of the Roll Player universe. Mapping terrains dictated by special cards will give you reputation, which is important for winning during each of 4 seasons of the year that make the entire game.

Cartographers Heroes is a sequel to the original game and a completely standalone title, (although you can mix them to get even more variety).

This time you will venture to the Western Lands to continue your task and complete even more challenges. This new version of Cartographers adds heroes to the mix and charting their heroic achievements will also grant you bonus reputation.
