3 Upcoming Kickstarter Board Games – Horrors, Factories and Crafting Katanas

Looks like the wave of upcoming October tabletop game announcements isn’t going to stop anytime soon. We have 3 more campaign previews for you today. Enjoy!

Factory 42 – October 10th

Euro style games, factory management, lovable dwarves – if you’re a fan of any of these, there’s a high chance that Timo Multamäki’s newest game is for you. It’s competitive, but with a dash of temporary co-op elements. The action takes place in a steampunk-like Factory 42 where you and each of your friends becomes a local work group leader. Your teams have many goals and if these weren’t enough, there’s a lot of good old bureaucracy to make your life even harder. 

Factory 42 is designed for 2 to 4 players. All teams get work orders and completing these awards Victory Points that determine the winner at the end of the game. After receiving the orders you gain a number of resources from the Bureaucracy tower. The tower is a pretty unique cardboard construction as it can hold some of the resources for a while instead of making them instantly available. 

After your workers get the resources from the pool, they need to load these on cards manually. When the goods reach the manufacture, it’s possible to burn some of them to generate steam vital for the production process. Finally: you trade products on the market and spend time researching improvements of your current technologies.

Dire Alliance: Horror – October 27th

Dire Alliance is a brand new franchise of fast paced card games set in a wide variety of worlds. The first installment called Dire Alliance: Horror will be the first one to get crowdfunded on Kickstarter and (when the campaign succeeds) released. Four people responsible for designing this entire concept need no introduction. Trevor Benjamin, Brady Sadler, Adam Sadler, David Thompson have designed amazing tabletop experiences either based on cult franchises as well as their own worlds.

What sets Dire Alliance apart from other card games we know from Kickstarter? First: it has two separate and equally well fleshed out modes. The Battle Mode is fully competitive and targeted at 2 players fighting each other while attempting to complete goals belonging to a scenario of their choice. There are also multiple factions and leaders to control and all have their own strengths and possible combos. All of these will of course be inspired by classic horror characters and popular tropes.

The co-op Raid Mode allows solo play or teaming up and creating 2-4 player groups fighting against difficult AI-controlled enemy decks. Both modes use cards to move characters, use their abilities and of course: fight a lot.

Shogun No Katana – October 2020

And like last time, we’ll finish with a pretty cool looking, worker placement strategy game. At least to these of you who are into East Asian culture and its weaponry. Japan was always famous for its glorious katanas. Creating one sword was one hell of a job, so only the best crafters were tasked with this process. In Shogun no Katana you become one of these crafters and use your workers and skill to deliver perfect weapons that will satisfy the Shogun as much as possible. 

The game can be played with up to 4 players (and there’s a solo mode too). Each of you has their own team of workers and they’re represented with great looking miniatures. You also own your forge and managing it to its full effectiveness is one of the most difficult and satisfying parts of the game. The forge has rows and columns for your katanas and you can activate only one of these at a time, which often makes the decisions pretty hard.

While some of your people are working on katana crafting, others will have to visit important places like the Shogun’s Palace (for political benefits) and the Academy (for sword decorations).
