Fall is almost here and so are tons of huge Kickstarter campaigns that many of us were impatiently waiting for. Today we’ll open with one game releasing sometime in 2020 and two projects set for September 22nd.
Chronicles of Waral – 2020
A brand new publisher from France called Moskito Games is about to launch their first project on Kickstarter. Chronicles of Waral is a board game for 2 to 4 players set in a fictional Kingdom of Kreis where various groups fight each other over controlling its capital called Heldenheim.
Chronicles of Waral is a fast paced game with a huge part of gameplay relying on (beautifully illustrated) cards. Good decisions grant you more influence, and whoever has the most by the end – becomes victorious.
At the beginning of the game, each player gets 4 characters, places one in front of them and keeps passing the cards to the next player. You repeat this until you have 3 characters in front of you. The board consists of 8-10 district cards. During your turn you can use each of your characters once to either loot a location, conquer it or activate a Trick Card. The game ends when a player reaches a certain amount of influence (depending on the player count). Everything seems fast paced and quite replayable thanks to the amount of different character combinations.
Galactic Era – September 22nd
And it’s time for something quite different and much larger in scale. Galactic Era is a complex science fiction strategy game made with up to 6 players in mind. Each session will be rather lengthy and last for about 3-4 hours, which isn’t that rare among civilization-style games.
Galactic Era has a unique feature where you choose one of the two sides: the dark one or the light one. The former allows for aggressive gameplay while the latter focuses on contacting more advanced civilizations.
Each of you starts as a leader of a relatively advanced civilization ready to conquer the stars. To win you don’t have to use all the means that the game offers. In fact: it’s entirely possible to become victorious without a single battle, although you’ll have to make up for it in other ways. According to the creators, the game has barely any randomness and relies entirely on strategic gameplay and long term planning. Fans of deeper, longer and thinky strategy games might be in for a treat here.
It’s also worth noting that this is a relaunch campaign with many tweaks and different stretch goals. Some of the new additions include spaceship miniatures, better visuals, a solo variant and a very reasonable pricing.
Dinosaur Island: Rawr ‘n Write – September 22nd
It turns out that on September 22nd we will have one more, unexpected game related to Dinosaur Island, launch on Kickstarter…
Dinosaur Island: Rawr ‘n Write, like the name suggests, belongs to the recently popular roll and write genre and like its meeple heavy predecessor: turns players into managers of a dinosaur theme park. Players draft workers represented by dice and later use them to create attractions, roads and exits to fill the map perfectly and get the highest score possible. Apart from that, many elements known from the original like creating dinosaurs from DNA and hiring specialists will also be present.
The game will likely be a pledge or an add-on during Dinosaur World’s campaign, although that hasn’t been confirmed yet.
