Time to discuss another batch of tabletop games coming to crowdfunding platforms this year. Let’s talk about 3 campaigns: from expansions to popular games to an adaptation of a certain cult video game.
Maximum Apocalypse: Wasted Wilds – May 18th
Great news for all fans of Mike Gnade and Rock Manor Games. Their most popular game, funded on Kickstarter back in 2019 is getting a brand new stand alone expansion. The sequel to Maximum Apocalypse called “Wasted Wilds” will launch on Kickstarter on May 18th.
For these of you, who haven’t played Maximum Apocalypse: the game is designed for 1-6 players and belongs to the roguelike genre. Players cooperate to survive in a post-apocalyptic world, while exploring the wilderness and gathering resources. No two gamess feel similar, as the world is randomly generated each time you play.
The Wasted Wilds expansion brings quite a lot of new content to the game. First: there are 2 completely new campaigns for players to tackle: “The Frozen Wilds”, which has a tutorial for newcomers, and “Scorched Wasteland”. They’re designed for 1-4 players, but if you have the first installment of the series, you can expand it up to 6. Wasted Wilds also features four new characters to play as, and tons of content like new weapons and enemies to defeat. New heroes include The Driver, The Chef, The Contractor and The Thief.
The Clock mechanic is another interesting addition. New board represents the passage of time and can often make the game more challenging by activating various negative effects.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim The Board Game – June 2021
And now something that will please many video game players. The Elder Scrolls franchise needs no introduction, especially its fifth installment that took the gaming world by a storm. A game set in the frozen lands of Skyrim remains one of the most popular (and still played) video games of all time. A board game adaptation created by Modiphius Entertainment is set to launch on Gamefound this June.
Modiphius Entertainment has actually worked on games set in the same universe before. Back in 2019 they released The Elder Scrolls: Call to Arms – which was a miniature based wargame. The game received a number of expansions, usually focused on introducing new armies and terrains. Its high quality minis have lots of details and players can order their resin and hard plastic versions.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim The Board Game is likely to have a similar miniature quality but the game seems to be quite different in terms of genres. While a lot of info still hasn’t been released, we know that it’s going to be playable by up to 4 players, have a solo mode and focus on exploration and adventuring. We’re guessing it will also be cooperative, but this hasn’t been confirmed yet. More info is likely to come soon so stay tuned.
Dealers in Hope – Summer 2021
A new title by APE Games is coming to Kickstarter this summer. Dealers in Hope is designed for 3 to 5 players and merges two popular genres: card games and wargames. The story is set in 22nd century Europe. With less space to live due to increasing sea levels, various factions wage wars to gain more territory for their citizens to live on.
Factions you can play as are asymmetric, and each of them sports some unique traits, their own starting decks and some special conditions that grant them additional Victory Points at the end of the game. You also gain tons of VPs by conquering new territories for your people. Whoever has the most of these when the game concludes: wins.

During your turn you can train, which makes you add cards to your pool (deck-building style), reorganize your deck and attack enemy territories. Combat is resolved by playing certain cards that have their own stats like the attack and defense value. Interestingly, despite all the conquest, the game put a noticeable focus on regular citizens as well.
Each game of Dealers in Hope game is divided into two eras, each represented by one side of the board. Each era allows slightly different actions, performable during player turns.
