Quartz – a Different Kind of Bottle

In the final days of November a discovery by a certain Canadian fisherman managed to hit plenty of headlines. While working, he managed to find a lobster with a Pepsi logo tattooed on one of its claws. Professionals called this discovery a depressing testimony to sea and ocean pollution and once again reminded us that it’s time to change our habits.

Overwhelming Numbers

480 000 000 000. Four hundred eighty billion. That’s how many plastic bottles were sold in 2016 according to “The Guardian”. What happens after they get emptied? Many begin their own, random journey through biosphere. Some pollute the atmosphere, soil and water. In the end all living organisms are affected.

Bottle created by the QUARTZ team can take part in solving this problem. Justin Wang and his colleagues have recently presented their reusable water container equipped with a modern cleansing system.

How Does the QUARTZ Bottle Work

Water stored in the QUARTZ bottle keeps the freshness for a really long time. It’s possible thanks to a UVC LED chip. In the Adventure Mode it needs only 60 seconds to eliminate 99,9999% of bacteria and viruses from the liquid. That means that even the water drawn from springs and streams can be made drinkable. All you need is a single push of a button located on top.

Implementing this sort of mechanism in bottle itself makes it usable in almost every set of conditions. It will be useful on daily basis and give you a taste of fresh water while saving lots of time that you’d waste on cleaning the container. Same for hiking trips and faraway journeys, especially considering that QUARTZ is able to maintain liquid’s temperature for over 24 hours.

Antibacterial and antiviral qualities of the bottle are confirmed by David Weber, a doctor. Research conducted in independent laboratories has shown that the cleansing mechanism effectively eliminates E.coli bacteria as well as salmonella and staphylococcus. Additionally, QUARTZ doesn’t contain mercury like other bottles, so it’s fully ecological.

Comfort of Use. Attractive Design

The bottle’s capacity equals 525 milliliters (getting pledges to 2 million USD will unlock the 750ml size). Cleanliness and freshness are maintained by a special system, which performs a standard water cleansing at regular intervals (Adventure Mode requires turning it on manually). It’s powered by a battery which can work for 2 months on a single charging.

We can’t ignore the abstract design of the bottle. A while ago we’ve shown you memobottle, a stylish idea for traditional solution lovers. QUARTZ follows an entirely different approach. It looks modern and its varied colours can fit your preferred style.

Together For the World

QUARTZ is quite the ray of hope for the natural environment. During 60 seconds of cleansing water in product’s Adventure Mode the world wastes about 20 000 plastic bottles. The creators go even further than just creating QUARTZ. Wang and his colleagues have decided to offer a 1% of their income to the Charity:Water organization which helps in making water accessible to people in developing countries. You can still support both of the initiatives.
