What makes co-op games so popular? Maybe humans have a subconscious need to form parties and just experience adventures with others? Or maybe it’s because the people you usually play games with aren’t that much into rivalry? It doesn’t matter which of these 2 answers fits your situation the most: we’ve got some co-op heavy board games for you! All of them have ongoing Kickstarter campaigns, so if you like them you can still back them.
Tranquility: a co-operative card game
There are days when you want to play something simple and fast paced. You have to admit, that there aren’t too many co-op games like that – and that alone makes Tranquility intriguing. It also comes with beautiful illustrations.
On each card there’s a map showing its daytime and nighttime version. Every card also has an unique number. The goal of the gameplay is to place the cards in the correct order – from the lowest to the highest. This may sound simple, but in fact: you never know what cards do other players have, so it’s nowhere near easy.
Hour of Need
Here’s a game that does a great job with a comic book inspired setting. We get transported to a world where a fight between good and evil is taking place – on the pages of various graphic novels. As superheroes, we’ll try to stop the villains from completing their evil plan and we’ll have to hurry, as the amount of time to finish the task is pretty limited. Each player gets a deck of cards unique to his or her character, and that makes each hero’s gameplay unique. The game also does look fantastic, although that may depend on whether you enjoy comic like visuals or not.
Zerywia is a cooperative adventure game where we’re trying to save the world together. The box is filled to the brim with components. There are some mins, but cards and tokens fill the majority of it.
A dark fantasy feeling is oozing from every single piece of art in the game. According to the creators: Zerywia was inspired entirely by Slavic myths. We’re in for a huge adventure with plenty of character development as well as a great story line to discover. It simply looks epic! Too bad the gameplay time is estimated at 40 minutes per player, so you’ll need to have a lot of time to complete a single session properly.
Chronicles of Drunagor: Age of Darkness
Like beautiful and big sized miniatures? How about exploring dungeons and killing monsters? What if you could get all of that and even more? Chronicles of Drunagor is a dungeon crawler that that informs us about our upcoming challenges and discoveries in real time – you unfold pieces of paper used as doors and learn what’s coming.
Amazing minis, 3D board, great illustrations – all of them make the game look so good, that you’ll simply have to stop for a while and admire it. And when you go back to playing, you’ll quite likely spend a few hours having a great time.
