Rainbow Six – The Board Game – Summer 2021

Rainbow Six is a name that should ring a bell for most video gamers. Sure, the whole thing started as a novel, but it was the game by Ubisoft that really made it a part of pop culture. Countless sequels, ports to different systems and multiplayer installments have made it popular despite 2 decades passing and new generations of game consoles coming to the market. In 2021 Rainbow Six will get adapted by yet another medium: a tabletop game. The project is going to be designed and developed by Mythic Games known for huge adventure games like Reichbusters, Darkest Dungeon the Board game and many more.

The board game adaptation of the novels by Tom Clancy and Ubisoft’s video games will be crowdfunded this summer and recently we’ve had some first glimpses at a number of components that will be included in the game. Right now, all we know comes from a short teaser shown on one of Ubisoft live streams. Since the stream was devoted to the multiplayer shooter Rainbow Six Siege, we’re assuming that the game will be fully competitive, or at least  have a competitive mode. The footage shows 2 teams aiming at each other which seems to support this theory. The player count is also unknown as of now, but we’re guessing it’ll either be for 2 players or based on equally sized player teams. When more info gets released about this one, we will be sure to keep you updated. Stay tuned!

Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island – Collector’s Edition – March 2021

One of the most recommended co-op games is coming to Kickstarter in an all-new, deluxe edition as soon as March 2021. Portal Games were already releasing some remastered versions of their most popular games on Kickstarter, so Robinson Crusoe, their most critically acclaimed and highest rated title, was just a matter of time. This time however, they will crowdfund the project on Gamefound.

The original game has players take on the roles of survivors living on a seemingly deserted island. In a wide variety of scenarios they have to build a place to live in, look for food, hunt and survive various threats. The game is playable in solo mode or in a group of up to 4 players. Everyone plays a different character with their own unique abilities. Each scenario has different goals, but all of them have a reputation of being difficult and challenging. The original had six of these, but they were followed by numerous expansions and fan made scenarios.

The new edition of Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island features tons of new content. First: a 4 scenario long tutorial called “open & play campaign” will make the game much more accessible to new players without scaring them away with high difficulty. Portal Games has also designed a mobile app that adds more event cards to the game. Backers will also be able to get the long awaited Book of Adventures featuring 20 new scenarios. Finally: the Collector’s Edition will have high quality plastic miniatures depicting the characters you play as.

Gaijin – May 2021

Gaijin. Trademarks and visuals belong to their rightful owners.

This year certainly has a lot of cyberpunk themed projects and Gaijin, the newest game by Awaken Realms will also be one of them. The game is being developed and published by their “AR Lite” team, and materials released so far make it look quite exciting.

Gaijin is played on 2 separate boards representing 2 worlds that the game is taking place in: the futuristic metropolis, and the virtual world that can be explored by hacking. The boards correspond with each other and achieving successes on one of them makes you more powerful on the second.

The game is designed for 1 to 4 players and depending on a scenario you’re tackling it can be either cooperative or straight competitive. There seems to be a lot of cyberpunk flavor in there, not to mention the beautiful illustrations that show various districts filled with neon lights and eerie night scenes. According to Awaken Realms, the game is supposed to appear on Gamefound in May.
